Keynote Speakers
Dr. Gregory Hudnall
Dr. Gregory A. Hudnall is a former high school principal and associate superintendent with the Provo City School District. He has been involved with suicide prevention for the past 25 years. Dr. Hudnall is the founder of Hope4Utah, a community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention. His school-based peer-to-peer suicide prevention program, Hope Squad, has been responsible for over 5,000 students referred for help and over 1,000 hospitalized. The Hope Squad program is now in over 1,000 schools in the U.S. and Canada.
For over 15 years, Dr. Hudnall has led a state-wide volunteer suicide crisis team that has responded to over 54 youth suicides. Dr. Hudnall has presented at over 100 national and state conferences on suicide, bullying, connectedness, community collaboration, and making schools a safe place for students.
Dr. Hudnall was invited to testify before the United States Surgeon General on suicide in Utah. He has presented to the U.S. Department of Health and at the national conferences of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Association of Suicidology. Dr. Hudnall was also invited to participate in a webinar on African Americans and suicide by the White House. He has trained over 50,000 in suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention. He has presented across the United States and three countries on suicide prevention, including to the Minister of Education for Madrid, Spain.
Dr. Hudnall is considered one of the leading experts in community- and school-based suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention. He lives by the mantra, "While it takes a village to raise a child, it takes an entire community to save one."
Dr. Brian Miller
Brian Miller, Ph.D. provides training and consultation on topics of secondary trauma, trauma informed supervision, and implementation processes nationally and internationally. His book, Reducing Secondary Traumatic Stress: Skills for Sustaining a Career in the Helping Professions was released in July of 2021.
Dr. Miller's experience includes tenure as Director of Children's Behavioral Health at Primary Children's Hospital, Director of Mental Health Services for Salt Lake County; Director of the Trauma Program for Families with Young Children at The Children's Center in Salt Lake City; Clinical Director of Davis Behavioral Health, Associate Director of the Utah State Division of Mental Health; and as a psychotherapist in private practice. He holds a Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was a Mandel Leadership Fellow. He is the past board president for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Utah Chapter, and serves on the editorial review boards for the journals Traumatology and Contemporary Psychotherapy and the Secondary Traumatic Stress Consortium. He serves on the Governor's Commission on Education and Mental Health and is a member of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network.
Dr. Susan Madsen
Dr. Susan R. Madsen is considered one of the top global scholars and thought leaders on the topic of women's leadership, has authored or edited eight books, and has published hundreds of articles, chapters, and reports. Her research has been cited in the U.S. News and World Report, The Atlantic, The New York Times, Parenting Magazine, Chronicle of Higher Education, and The Washington Post. She is also a regular contributor to Forbes and other local and state newspapers. Professor Madsen is the Karen Haight Huntsman Endowed Professor of Leadership in the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University and serves on many nonprofit and community boards. She is also the Founding Director of the Utah Women & Leadership Project, and her passion is to strengthen the impact of girls and women in Utah and worldwide.

Amanda Dickson
Amanda Dickson co-hosts Utah's #1 rated morning show, Utah's Morning News on KSL NewsRadio. Amanda also hosts the award-winning program A Woman's View, heard Sunday mornings on KSL and via podcast.
She sits on the boards of the National Kidney Foundation of Utah, the Select Health Select 25 Committee, the National Advisory Board for Hale Centre Theatre, and the Newborn Safe Haven Advisory Committee.
Amanda earned her B.A. in English and her Juris Doctorate at the University of Utah.
Charlie Bird
Charlie Bird is a recent MSW graduate who specializes in working with the LGBTQ+ community. Charlie is known for being Cosmo the Cougar at Brigham Young University from 2016-2018, where he received national acclaim for his multiple dance performances with the BYU Cougarettes.
He is the author of Deseret Book bestselling memoir, Without the Mask, and co-hosts a top-ranked religious podcast called Questions from the Closet.
Nancy Cormack-Hughes
Rev. Nancy Cormack-Hughes is the ECS Director of Spiritual Care and is responsible for the spiritual well-being of the staff, patients, and loved ones at St. Mark's Hospital and the other hospitals served by ECS chaplains. Nancy earned her Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, and is Board Certified through the Association of Professional Chaplains. She is ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA). Nancy has lived in California, New Jersey, Edinburgh (Scotland), Pennsylvania, Idaho, and Utah; she is married with three adult children, and loves to run, swim, hike, and read.
Conference Registration
See the most up to date schedule below. The conference will be held at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center in West Valley City, UT. Breakfast and Lunch will be served for in-person participants.
This conference will be 9.0 hours of CE credit for those in-person with 1.0 Ethics and 1.0 Suicide Prevention hours. For those that participate virtually, the credit will be 7.0 hours.
